How to stop your makeup from creasing in this hot and humid weather.

Picture this, your face is beat to perfection, wing liner looking sharp it could cut your enemy. You step out of your house and the sun hit you from every angle and sweat drips down your face. You take a tissue to dab away your sweat and in the process it took away part of your makeup with it. The nightmare!

The weather in Singapore will just keep getting hotter and our makeup will need a lot more to last throughout this heat. I’m so sick of having my makeup melt off of my face. Especially around my eyes and nose area. It’ll either crease or parts of it will end up on my tissue. At the end of the day I’ll appear blotchy and patchy.

I have found a technique to lay down my base so it doesn’t melt off of my face and I’m gonna share it with you. So get your notebook and let’s combat this melting makeup situation.

Step 1: Skincare first. Always prep your skin before you place any makeup product. Moisturise your face and put eye cream and lip balm to prepare your skin. Let the skincare sit and get into your skin before the next step.

Step 2: Primer! I know some people skip primer but I prefer to put my primer on. I have a new favourite primer. I think people are sleeping on it but it’s so good! It’s the Pixi Rose Flash Balm. The trick with this product is to dab it on rather than spreading it all over your face. I use just a little bit of the product not even a dime size and dab it all over my face with my fingers.

source: pixibeauty.com

Step 3: Set it. I know you must think I’m crazy. You haven’t even put your foundation on! I know!!! Trust me on this. It’ll help your foundation from creasing and rubbing off later. Use a big fluffy powder brush to dust the translucent/setting powder all over your face. You can also use the powder puff which I personally prefer. You don’t need to use too much of the powder as we’re not doing baking here. Calm down, Stacey.

source: amazon.com

Step 4: Cream product. Now we’re finally ready to lay down our foundation. This step consist of all your cream product. Foundation, concealer, cream contour etc. I personally use a brush to apply my foundation. I like the airbrush finish I get with brush and it’s way faster. I like a fuss free makeup application. My favourite brush is the Real Techniques expert face brush.

source: temptalia.com

Step 5: Set it again! Yes you heard it. Now you just have to set it again. Same thing I use the powder puff to set my powder all over my face. I usually do a little bit of baking under my eye because that’s the area I tend to cease a lot. I don’t know why but my under eye produces lots and lots of sweat. I don’t go too crazy with the baking. You want to use just a little bit of your translucent/setting powder. I bake it for 5 minutes before dusting it off. After this whole step is done I can move on to slaying the rest of my makeup. You can finish off your makeup with setting spray for additional protection. Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don’t. To be honest my makeup stays on even without it.

That’s my tips for sweat proof and crease proof base. I will keep trying on new technique and I’ll definitely share with you if I found something new to keep our makeup lasting longer and looking fresh all day. Do let me know if you’ve tried these and if it works for you. Follow me on all my socials (Twitter, Instagram) for more updates and everything makeup. Until next time beauties!

Roxxmetics Turns ONE!

Recently I was invited to Roxxmetics Anniversary party. If you have been following this blog or my instagram you’ll be familiar with this cosmetic brand. So let’s talk about the party. It’s my first time meeting Rox, the founder of Roxxmetics. She’s very very friendly! Mind you I don’t really know much about the beauty community in Singapore. The last time I connect with any beauty community was in LA. It’s definitely a new environment for me. Rox made sure I didn’t feel out of place. The rest of the guest arrived and I was introduced to the ladies and most of them are makeup artist.

It’s a bit awkward for me because I really don’t know anybody there but I quickly connected with the ladies. They’re all very friendly and of course we just have to take a bunch of selfies! I love how everyone just connected and there’s no judgement at all! You know what I’m obsessed with at the party? The brownie. OMG the brownie was soooo good! It’s so rich but not too sweet. Go check them out on IG here.

I appreciate the fact Rox invited me despite me being just a… nobody. Lol. I’m all about supporting local business/brands. I try my best to include as many local business/brand in most of my article. Roxxmetics drop their new lash and lipstick collection in commemoration of the their first anniversary.

how cute is the cupcake?!

I was given a bunch of goodie bags containing awesome stuff including;  a pair of lashes and one shade of lipstick from the new collection. I’ve tried on the lashes and I absolutely loveee it! It’s light and you know I love a thin band. Best part is that it’s vegan & cruelty free! The style I’m wearing is ‘Arista’. I have yet to try the lipstick (shade Ritzy)  but if you follow me on instagram I’ll probably create a look using the lipstick. So…. FOLLOW ME! You can get yours at www.roxxmetics.com

Here are the things I got in the goodie bag:

  1. Roxxmetics – Lashes (Arista) & Lipstick (RItzy)
  2. Colours Of Threads – Earring
  3. Elusyf Global – Cell Activa Phyto Mask
  4. Avanna Beautique – Cuticle Oil
  5. Le Belle Beaute – Misty Spritzy (Rose)
  6. Makeup Budget – Brush Cleansing Spray
  7. Indie Herbals – Travel Kit
  8. Thulz Photography – Voucher
  9. Opium by Bubbly J – Voucher

Thank you once again to Rox for the invite and for recognizing the small start up and giving us the opportunity to network. I wish Roxxmetics all the success! I hope the beauty  community will have a lot more opportunity to get together. Till next time my beauties!

Eid edition: How to make your makeup last through the rendang and sweat.

Time goes by so fast! Less than 2 weeks before Ramadan! After Ramadan we will be celebrating Eid and you know what that means…. Lots and lots of visiting! A lot of our sisters are glamming it up during Eid. Some of us go out buying new lashes, new eyeshadow palette, new foundation just so we can be glam while visiting our relatives. The weather in Singapore can be very unforgiving and it’s not very makeup friendly. Thank goodness we have waterproof makeup today or else we’re gonna end up looking like a raccoon by the second house. I’ll be sharing with you some of my tips on how I make my makeup last through the day!

1.) Moisturise

Before you start your makeup it’s important for you to moisturise your skin. Yes please do it even if you have oily skin. I personally have oily skin and I’ve seen how much moisturising help me from becoming more greasy throughout the day. The reason why it is less greasy is because your skin will stop producing so much sebum once it knows your skin has enough moisture. I’ve had client who told me that sometimes they use moisturizer and it won’t soak into their skin and leave their skin even more greasier. I found the right product that will help with that. I first discover this product when I was in LA. I was dry as a raisin there and this product help me a lot! It is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I have use this on all of my client and they liked it. This is also safe for people with sensitive skin. You can get this at sephora for only $24.

2.) Prime

Primer can help reduce pores and make applying makeup easier. I have two primer that I use. My first primer is liquid base and my second primer is a matte cream base. My go to primers are Farsali unicorn essence and Schmitzkova Mattifying Primer. Firstly I would use 3 drops of the unicorn essence and spread it evenly on my face and then I would take Schmitzkova mattifying primer and put it on my T-zone or troubled area where I tend to grease. It has work well for me when I have to be out the whole day/night.

3.) Exfoliate

Exfoliating is good because it remove dead skin cell. I’m focusing on the lips here. Use a lip scrub and you’ll see the difference. Lipstick can stick on better and glide on more easier on your lips. During Eid we will most likely be eating a lot so you can’t really expect your lipstick to never budge. Liquid lipstick tend to last longer but let’s be honest it won’t be able to last through our rendang and sambal goreng. Yummmmm. I usually prefer going with traditional bullet/creme lipstick because it’s easier to layer on. Some liquid lipstick will separate and some just become thick on your lips because of the build up so that’s not cute. Lately I have been loving the new YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Lip Stain. It is so pigmented and it really feels like nothing on the lips! This is my go to lipstick and I need more shades! From the name itself you know it’s gonna stain your lips so even it it fades you still have some colour on your lips and you can totally layer it on!

4.) Baking

Oh.. I had my doubts about baking  in the beginning but after I tried it, I’m a believer. I usually bake my trouble zone. My nose, around my mouth and maybe on the chin. I basically use my setting powder all over my face but I only do baking on the parts that tend to get greasy. I realise I do not need to do any touch up throughout the day.

5.) Eyelash

Who is a fan of falsies like me?! I feel like my look isn’t complete without falsies. I need to have my falsies on. Some eyelash glue just don’t want to play nice. Have you ever experience where you put on your favourite pair of lashes, went visiting and have it dangling for dear life at the very edge of your lashes? Nightmare! If you bring your lash glue then you can glue it back but sometimes your eyeliner might already be ruin. Not cute babe! I found the perfect glue. I have been using this glue forever! It stays put through the storm girlfriend! You need to it. If you read my article on best eyelash glue you’ll know which glue I’m talking about. StarLash eyelash glue is your best friend. It’s cheap and it works! You can get it at Sasa store for $6 if I’m not mistaken.

So there you go that’s my 5 tips for making my makeup last throughout the day. I hope this Eid you’ll be able to Glam up and show up without having to worry about your make up becoming a mess. Till next time beauties!

Nygmarose top 5 makeup stash

Makeup lover like myself have massive makeup collections. I am running out of space in my beauty box and sometimes I come across new palette that I’d forgotten I had all this while. All this makeup and I will still buy more. I mean… There’s no such thing as too much makeup. If you’re a makeup artist like me, you definitely have to stock up your makeup. I was looking around my beauty box and I realise I have a few products that I will instantly gravitate to. I want to share my top favourite makeup products with you.

1.) Eyeshadow

IG: @nygmarose

When I’m in a hurry or I have to pack just one palette for traveling, my go to is Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette. I can create a simple neutral look and I can switch it up to a more dramatic look too. On my lazy days I will use the shade coco on my lid and take a blending brush to blend it upwards to my crease. On my not so lazy day, I like to use the shade maneater on my crease add coco to the outer corner and blessed on my lid. I’m not a big fan of the textured eyeshadow but I do use them on my lid when I do a black smokey eye so the colour would pop. Unfortunately Huda discontinued this palette when she came up with desert dusk palette.

2.) Primer

source: sephora.com

I see this product everywhere on Instagram. My first thought was that ahhh just another hype online and probably isn’t that good. I was sceptical. It was pricey too! Sephora Singapore recently bring in the Farsali Rose Gold elixir and Unicorn essence. I went to the store to try it out and end up getting the unicorn essence. I have an oily skin….and also the fact I just want to be fancy having unicorn stuff on my face. OMG girlfriends….. This product is legit. I love the smell, I love how it feels on my skin and I love how my makeup look after using this primer. Best thing is that this is water-based so it helps with my oily skin and it is also free from parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. YAY! Get it here.

3.) Foundation

IG: @nygmarose

Fenty Beauty. Where do I even begin. Rihanna slay at everything. She’s the ultimate boss babe. Ever since I tried Fenty foundation, I never want any other foundation. It is so light and it stays matte on my oily skin. I don’t need much because the coverage is amazing. You have 40 shades to choose from and I am in the shade 310.  I am looking forward to more Fenty products because girl.. I need to get the whole collection! To be honest I love all of Fenty Beauty base products. It’s my go to for a flawless snatched base! Get it here.

4.) Concealer

I love a good concealer because I have acne scars and hyperpigmentation to cover. My all time favourite concealer is by Roxxmetics. Roxxmetics is a Singapore brand and I come across this brand when I participated in an instagram contest. They sent me the full cover concealer as one of the prize. This product is so amazing. Just a little bit of concealer was able to cover the hyperpigmentation around my mouth area. I use the shade medium. Get it here.

5.) Lashes

IG: @nygmarose

My go to dramatic vavavoom lashes would be Carmen by Huda Beauty. I love my lashes long and thick. 😉 Of course some days I like a pair of nice wispies but if you know me, I go big. Carmen just frame my eyes nicely. I put Carmen on whenever I do a dramatic bold eye look. Be it a cut crease or nice smokey eye. Sadly you can’t get huda lashes in Singapore so you have to buy it from their website which can cost a lot with shipping. Get it here.

There you go girlfriends! That’s my top 5 makeup products. Share with me your top 5. Follow me on instagram or twitter for more beauty updates and my secret project 😉 Until next time!

Can Can’s Handmade Liquid Lipstick – Review

Hello lovelies!

Here I am again with another review for you. I recently took part in a makeup challenge on Instagram and the theme was “Unicorn Frappbabe” inspired by the famous Unicorn Frappucino. It was a collaboration between Roxxmetics, Can Can’s Handmade, Raggysha and Teal & Gold Co. They pick 3 winners and I was lucky enough to be one of the winner. Here is my submission for the challenge:

IG: @nygmarose

I didn’t know much about Can Can’s handmade so I decided to look them up. They are Malaysia based cosmetics company and they specialises in makeup for middle to deeper skin tone. I find it amazing as there are not many brands out there that caters to the deeper skin tone. I know I have a difficult time trying to find the right foundation shade or lipstick shade. Sometimes it would look good on the website and when I order it, it just didn’t look good against my skin tone. For now Can Can’s handmade only have 2 shades of liquid lipstick on their website. I hope they will come up with more products in the future.

Can Can’s send me their liquid lipstick in the shade Muse. The packaging look sophisticated with just simple gold logo and lettering on a black box. On their website it stated that it is Cruelty Free, uses natural ingredients, doesn’t contain parabens, SLS, silica and mineral oils.

IG: @nygmarose

The formula isn’t too thick. One swatch and it was very pigmented. I absolutely love the colour. I waited for it to dry down and it wasn’t very drying like some matte liquid lipsticks. I also have to give credit to Raggysha’s chocolate lip scrub that made my lips smooth and making the application of the lipstick easier.

IG: @nygmarose

The liquid lipstick is selling for $59.00RM. You can get yours from their website here. I would rate this liquid lipsticks 8/10. Really hoping they would come up with more shades.

Follow me on instagram for more update and also you can leave a comment if you want me to try any new product. Until next time beauties!

Peace & Love,

Nygmarose

Schmitzkova Le Beauté Cosmetics Makeup Base – Review

my cat approve this product

Hey beauties! Calling my beauty junkies in Singapore.

I have a new product that I recently tested. It is a Mattifying Makeup Base by Schmitzkova Le Beauté Cosmetics. Schmitzkova Le Beauté Cosmetics is a Singapore based company and this is their first product. I am all for supporting local brands. Shout out to the Founder of Schmitzkova Le Beauté Cosmetics, Sarah Schmitzkova for the great service. She actually came and deliver the product to me. So let’s get on with the review.

The packaging look elegant and classy. You know I love a pretty packaging. It has a cream texture and will be powdery after you blend it. Definitely finishes matte. It feels smooth on my skin and it has a very nice powdery floral smell. It is not overwhelming so I’m not mad at it.

A makeup base is basically a primer. You can use it before applying makeup and it acts as a barrier between your skin and the makeup so it won’t clog your pores. I have a combination skin. The area around my cheek can be pretty dry and my T-zone tends to be oily. So I was kind of worried if I put the product all over it can be patchy on my dry area like most matte product would. Surprisingly it didn’t do that at all so I’m able to put it on my entire face. I did a test on this product whereby I go through the whole day without the primer and on the second day I put on the primer. At the end of the day I blot my face with the oil blotting sheet. So here’s the result:

Day 1 without the Makeup Base:

without primer

Day 2 with the Makeup Base:

with primer

As you can see it is significantly better with the primer. My face feel smooth throughout the day. This is for the duration of 8 hours. I am impressed with the product and I will keep using it.

You can order yours from their facebook page (here). They are selling it for $59.90. Give them a like on facebook & follow them on instagram for more updates.

Peace & love,

Nygmarose

Urban Decay Heat Palette

Hey Makeup Junkies! It has been awhile and I’m so sorry for the lack of update. It has been a hectic few months. There’s a lot of new releases that I didn’t get to update. :( Anyway let’s move on to the good part. URBAN DECAY HEAT PALETTE.

Have you guys gotten the new palette? The moment I saw the teaser I got excited. It is packed with a bunch of beautiful warm tones. I can already imagine the number of looks I can create with this palette. Sultry sexy warm tones. You can go without the strong liner and just rock the eyeshadow by itself with a nice wispies lashes.

I haven’t gotten the palette yet as I wanna give away a bunch of my eyeshadow palettes. If you’re from Singapore it is retailing for $83 and you can get it from Sephora. If you’re from the states, it is retailing for $54 in Sephora.

Share with me your looks on instagram with the hashtag (#nygmarosebeauty) and I might just feature some of my favourite.

Product Review: BH Cosmetics Nude Rose Highlighter Palette

I love highlighter. I can never get enough of it. You all know I want to glow all the way to space. Recently I received the BH Cosmetics Nude Rose highlighter palette. I was impressed by 3 of the shades. The pink shade is a little chalky and it has a subtle sheen to it. So if you’re not into the dramatic glow then this shade is for you. Here are the swatches:

The rest of the shades are pretty pigmented. For the price (US$10.50) I think it’s worth it because you get 4 different shades. I have been using the two gold-ish shades the most. I find it the most flattering on my skin and I’m very surprised at how pigmented it is. Below I’ve included a photo of me using the highlighter palette. How blinging is that? 🙂 You can get yours at bhcosmetics.nygmarosebeauty.com.
